Explore Uganda
Embark on a journey through the lush green landscapes, witness the diverse wildlife, and immerse yourself in the vibrant cultures of Uganda.
From the moment one lands at Entebbe International Airport, the sight of Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest tropical lake and the second largest freshwater lake in the world which is also the reservoir of the Nile River adds to the beauty which is Uganda. The climate is agreeable, reflecting the combination of an equatorial location with medium to high altitudes, (Uganda sits 3,000-4,000 feet above sea level).
A forty-kilometer drive north of Entebbe, sprawled across twenty-one hills, is the capital city of Kampala. The bright modern feel of this bustling cosmopolitan city reflects the ongoing economic growth and political stability that has characterized Uganda since 1986. Uganda’s reputation as Africa’s friendliest country stems from the hospitality of people with a diverse culture.
A drive to the East passing through Mabira forest, and into Jinja where one can raft the world’s longest river, the River Nile, easily satisfies the adventure traveler, with its grade 5 rapids. The River Nile begins its long majestic journey in Jinja where the source of the River Nile is located.
Uganda is a haven for wildlife lovers, boasting of over 10 national parks and game reserves. From the Big Five - lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and rhinos. Uganda's wildlife is diverse and awe-inspiring. Get up close and personal with these animals on a game drive or a walking safari through the savannas, forests, and wetlands. Southwest Uganda is home to the rare mountain gorillas in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga national park. Track these amazing primates that share 15% of DNA with humans. Northwest takes the traveler into the Savannah grassland of Murchison Falls National Park. Having visited the source of the Nile (Jinja), one can take a launch trip on the Victoria Nile to see the "Cradle of the Nile" (Murchison Falls). It is here that the whole Victoria Nile bursts majestically through a six-meter gap to an awesome 35-metre drop and wends its way into Egypt to pour its waters into the Mediterranean Sea.
